Parents as Partners: The Parent-Infant Program
Parents of newborn to three- year- old children become partners in the learning process through participation with educators of the deaf, educational and clinical audiologists, and speech and language pathologists. In addition to our own multi-disciplinary team, Clarke professionals collaborate with early intervention agencies, cochlear implant centers, and other service specialists to meet the developmental needs of the child and family. Families participate in a range of activities, such as individual and family sessions at the center, play groups, parent-and-child groups, parent support and information groups, home visits, consultation to daycare providers, and co-visits with other service providers. Clarke provides educational and support resources regarding information about hearing loss and auditory development, child development, risks associated with hearing loss, and ideas for action to minimize those risks. Clarke also facilitates parent-to-parent contact, and supports parents as they advocate and plan for their child’s educational programming.
